  • Trump Administration’s Health Report Leaves Researchers Stumped, Concerned

Robert F Kennedy Jr, who is the person in-charge of outlining America’s health policy and outlook, is an intensely controversial figure, who has for long, promoted false claims that “autism comes from vaccines”.

MAHA commission released a report on children’s health in America.

The report cited studies that were later found to be fabricated or non-existent.

Listed authors of the studies denied involvement and claimed they don’t exist.

The US government’s ‘Make America Healthy Again’ or MAHA commission and its chief Robert F Kennedy Jr, find themselves in an embarrassing situation after a health report it released cited “totally fabricated” research material. The report was about children’s health in America.

Two versions of the report were released over the last week – the first on May 22 and the revised and updated version on May 29, but upon scrutiny, it was revealed that the studies quoted in the report, upon which their entire findings were based, were completely fabricated. This was highlighted by the academics who were wrongly listed as the authors of those studies.

The report, which was focused on the chronic disease crisis among American children, listed its causes in detail and added its findings based on studies which were “fabricated” according to academics. The updated version of the report was also found to have used seven sources which do not even exist, US’ digital news outlet NOTUS said.

But the Trump Administration tried to downplay the incident by claiming that it was due to “formatting issues”. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the country’s top health panel – MAHA – will rework the report and share an update, but did not specify when. Moreover, she did not negate the substance of the report.

  • How Trump Administration Targeting Chinese Students Was Years In The Making

The United States plans to “aggressively” revoke visas for Chinese students did not happen in a day. US President Donald Trump and his allies had been laying the groundwork for this since years.

The U.S. plans to revoke visas for Chinese students, citing security concerns related to the Chinese Communist Party. This policy, backed by Trump allies, aims to curb China’s influence in U.S. education and has worsened already strained U.S.-China relations.

The United States’ plans to “aggressively” revoke visas for Chinese students did not happen in a day. US President Donald Trump and his allies had been laying the groundwork for this since years.

In 2023, in a campaign trail, Trump vowed to ban “Christian-hating communists, Marxists and socialists” from the country, shut down China-funded Confucius Institutes on U.S. college campuses and even prosecute Chinese scientific researchers and professors working at US universities.

“The president laid it out there in the campaign… when he says he’s going to do something in the campaign, he actually tries to do it,” said Ken Cuccinelli, who was Trump’s deputy of Homeland Security during his first term, per a report by the Politico.

“The reason people like me raised it in the first term is the reason you’re hearing from Rubio — there are very real security reasons to not help the Chinese advance their position in technical fields, and certainly not anyone more closely associated with [the Chinese Communist Party].”

The administration has China hawks who have been focussed on cracking down China’s influence on US institutions.

  • Elon Musk Responds To NYT’s Drug Abuse Charge From The Oval Office

According to a New York Times report, Musk’s consumption of ketamine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms raised eyebrows, particularly given his influential role in the “department of government efficiency”.

Elon Musk’s controversial ties to Trump’s administration included substance use, with reports of ketamine and ecstasy consumption. His erratic behavior raised concerns about his fitness for government roles, despite his influential position.

Elon Musk’s association with Donald Trump’s administration was marked by controversy and erratic behaviour, with sources close to the billionaire entrepreneur revealing a darker side to his involvement. According to a New York Times report, Musk’s consumption of ketamine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms raised eyebrows, particularly given his influential role in the “department of government efficiency”.

Musk’s daily medication box, containing around 20 pills, including Adderall, has sparked concerns about his substance use. In a striking contradiction, Musk told journalist Don Lemon in March 2024 that he took ketamine in small doses every two weeks, saying, “If you’ve used too much ketamine, you can’t really get work done, and I have a lot of work.” However, sources suggest he was using it far more frequently, sometimes daily, which reportedly affected his bladder.

His drug use got worse as he donated $275m to Trump’s presidential campaign and then spearheaded the “department of government efficiency”, or Doge.

As Musk’s role in the administration grew, so did concerns about his behavior. He was known to insult cabinet members and made a Nazi-like salute at a political rally, sparking widespread criticism. Sam Harris, a public intellectual and former friend, wrote in a January newsletter, “There is something seriously wrong with his moral compass, if not his perception of reality.”

  • Pakistan Upgrades Ties With Afghanistan Days After China’s Taliban Outreach

Pakistan-Afghanistan Ties: Besides last week’s ministerial-level meeting organised by Beijing, Pakistan’s foreign minister had traveled to Kabul with a Pakistani delegation last month to hold delegation-level talks to further bilateral ties.

Pakistan will send an Ambassador to Kabul for the first time since 2021.

The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday.

Current diplomatic ties are at a charge d’affaires level, lower than Ambassador.

Days after a China-convened meeting that pushed for greater Pakistan-Afghanistan ties, Islamabad has made a significant announcement – that it will be sending an Ambassador to Kabul soon. This is the first time since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021 that Islamabad has decided to upgrade its ties with its western neighbour.

The announcement was made on Friday by Pakistan’s foreign minister Ishaq Dar, who met his Chinese counterpart and the Taliban’s acting foreign minister last week in Beijing. Diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently at a charge d’affaires-level – a step below that of an Ambassador.

Besides last week’s ministerial-level meeting organised by Beijing, Pakistan’s foreign minister had traveled to Kabul with a Pakistani delegation last month to hold delegation-level talks to further bilateral ties.

    ‘POSITIVE TRAJECTORY’

Praising the “positive trajectory” between Islamabad and Kabul ever since last month’s delegation-level talks, Mr Dar said it is time to upgrade ties with the Taliban. Announcing the decision to send an Ambassador, he added that “I am confident this step would further contribute towards enhanced engagement and exchanges between two fraternal countries.”
